Dr. Kalmat was raised in the state of Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan and earned dual degrees in Microbiology and Anthropology with High Honors. He went on to Michigan State University-College of Human Medicine where he earned his medical degree. Early in his career path, as a medical student, he was recognized for his compassionate care toward patients and was awarded the Arnold P. Gold, Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Kalmat completed his anesthesiology residency at The University of Miami-Miller School of Medicine.
He is double board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management from ACGME accredited training programs. Following his pain management fellowship, Dr. Kalmat practiced at a highly regarded pain management practice in the Washington D.C. area for six years.
Professional athletes, senior political officials, and other physicians themselves have entrusted Dr. Kalmat for treatment of their pain conditions. After having practiced in the D.C. metro area, he is proud to call Phoenix, his wife's hometown, his new home.
Dr. Kalmat holds medical licenses in Arizona and Maryland. He continues to lecture on pain management topics. His interests include radiofrequency ablation for back pain, neck pain and headaches. He has lectured on various topics in pain management including neck and low back pain.
Dr. Kalmat was voted into Checkbook Magazine in 2015 for the Washington DC metropolitan area--selection into Checkbook Magazine Top Doctors is based on ratings by other doctors in the DC area.
Outside of practicing medicine, his other interests also include cooking, running and most of all, spending time with his family.
